iHospice is a special way of caring for patients and families coping with life-limiting illness. Those needs can be met with the compassion and expertise of Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care. Professionals and volunteers are available to help you and your family during this time.
Hospice care is designed for patients with an end-stage chronic or terminal illness who are not seeking further curative treatment. It is for patients who wish to be home with loved ones, and they do not want to go back to the hospital or treatment centers. If the diagnosis has been accepted and no further curative treatment is being sought, then hospice can offer spiritual, emotional and medical support.
The goal of hospice care is to meet the needs of each individual patient: physical, emotional, social and spiritual. Hospice caregivers can ease physical discomfort, provide companionship, help patients understand what to expect, find the right resources to fulfill the patient's wishes, and give needed support to family and friends. Hospice understands the changes and adjustments that a life-limiting illness presents to families and patients.
Many people with a variety of skills work together for the benefit of the patient and loved ones, and hospice uses a team approach to coordinate care. If they qualify, patients can benefit from a hospice comfort care team comprised of a physician, RN, CNA, social worker, and chaplain. Volunteer and bereavement programs are also provided. A hospice nurse and practitioner are on call 24 hours, seven days of the week to provide support and care of pain or symptoms.
The time may come when the patient's needs require, or the family can no longer manage to provide, the level of care required around the clock. Volunteer assistance is available for a variety of services, including respite for the family, companionship, transportation, errands and meal preparation.

Grieving the loss of a loved one is a natural part of healing. Bereavement support assists family members by offering care and counseling to help them adjust to the loss of a loved one.
